USC wide receiver Tori Gurley spoke to the media today for the first time since the story broke that he was planning on entering the NFL draft after the bowl game. Gurley did not confirm or deny our report, giving the standard “just focused on this game” answer that most guys give just prior to leaving school early.
“I’m not leaning towards anything, I’m just waiting to get my [draft] grade back,” Gurley said. The coaches do a great job of coaching me up and showing me things but I just wanted to get a scout’s evaluation.”
Steve Spurrier has repeatedly said that players that aren’t projected to go in the first round should return to school. None of the NFL mock drafts have Gurley anywhere near the first round on their boards.
“I understand his (Spurrier’s) philosophy,” Gurley said. Because at the time the money is guaranteed, but we are just waiting on my grade and we are going to build from there.”
Our information continues to indicate that, barring any sudden change of hear, Gurley will enter the NFL draft.
