QB Tanner McEvoy (6-5 205) of Oradell, NJ took his official visit to USC over the weekend and says the trip went very well. “I got to see what I wanted to see and talk to who I wanted to talk to,” said McEvoy. “I’d say it went well.” McEvoy is familiar with Columbia and USC but says he had not seen the new academic center before. He came away impressed. “I hadn’t been inside of it yet,” he said. “They did a real nice job with ‘The Dodie’ and the academic people did a good job as well.” McEvoy will receive Steve Spurrier and G.A. Mangus at his home tomorrow. Originally, McEvoy thought he would be heading to Michigan this weekend but had his dates confused. “I know I said I was going to Michigan this weekend but after I checked with the boss, my mom, I had my dates wrong,” kidded McEvoy. Instead, he will head to Michigan on January 7th, North Carolina on the 14th, and Rutgers the following week. He says it is unlikely we will commit until he completes his visits. McEvoy did not name a favorite.

The Citadel has commitments from Shrine Bowl TE Alex Glover (6-3 225) of Wando and his teammate WR Brandon Eakin (6-2 185).
DE Roderick Byers (6-4 262) of Northwestern made his first official visit this past weekend to Georgia Tech his coach Jimmy Wallace said Monday. Wallace said Byers remains very interested in USC. Gamecock head coach Steve Spurrier made his in person visit with Byers last Thursday. Byers is scheduled to visit USC January 14th. He’s also been looking at Clemson, Oregon and Texas Tech but does not have any other visits set.
Hillcrest DE Mike Rose switched his commitment from Wake Forest to NC State Sunday after taking an official visit to State.
DL Gerald Dixon Jr. of Northwestern and DE Gerald Dixon of South Pointe will not make an announcement Saturday after the Shrine Bowl. The two previously had talked about doing so. They plan to take a few visits in January including one to USC January 14th.
DL Leon Mackey of Hinds JC, MS made an official visit to Tennessee over the weekend and he’s now favoring the Vols. He’s also taken visits to USC, Texas Tech and Alabama. He’s scheduled to visit Mississippi State this coming weekend.
DE Ray Drew (6-5 250) of Thomasville, GA made his official visit to Georgia over the weekend. Drew said he had a good visit but did not commit to the Bulldogs. Drew has also taken official visits to LSU and Auburn. He’s scheduled to visit Clemson January 21st. Drew is not claiming a favorite.
TE Jay Rome (6-6 240) of Valdosta, GA made his official visit to Georgia over the weekend and now as the Georgia at the top of his list according to his father. “It was a really good visit,” Stan Rome said. “He enjoyed it. It went well. He liked the staff and the current players and the recruits and got along well with them. He felt comfortable in the environment. He hasn’t made a decision but he’s closer to making one. We’re going to try and take a couple of more visits.” Rome is scheduled to visit Alabama January 7th and is set with Clemson for January 28th though Stan Rome said they are going to try to get that visit moved up. He said his son has no timetable for making a final decision.
DL Kevin McReynolds (6-3 300) of Washington, DC took an official visit to Syracuse over the weekend. He had earlier visited UCLA. “It was a good visit but super cold,” McReynolds said. “The people are great and I liked the facilities.” McReynolds is scheduled to visit Oregon January 7th and Arkansas January 14th. And he will visit USC during the week of January 28th. He’s also working on an in home visit from Gamecock coach Steve Spurrier. He does not have a favorite.
