DE Ben Councell (6-5 230) of Asheville, NC committed to Notre Dame last June but in recent months he started to check out some other options including USC. He made an unofficial visit to Columbia in late October and talked about setting an official visit with the Gamecocks. But he made his official visit to Notre Dame this past weekend with his parents and decided after that to stick with the Irish. “He’s pretty strong on his commitment to them,” said his coach Shane Laws. “They answered all of his concerns. He feels good about his decision and he’s going to Notre Dame.” Laws contacted his USC recruiter Shawn Elliott Monday and told him of Concell’s decision.
Chip Towers of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported Tuesday USC football commitment LB Edward Muldrow of Snellville, GA was arrested and jailed in Gwinnett County on November 23rd. He was charged with possession/sale/ distribution of a drug, driving on a suspended license and an expired tag. His coach John Small said he and the school were aware of the arrest and that Muldrow currently remains in good standing with the team and the school.
RB Brandon Wilds of Blythewood, a USC commitment said he is not taking any more visits and will enroll at USC next month. Wilds said he will not take an official visit to Arkansas as was reported here. He acknowledged that Arkansas had been talking to him about visiting but he decided he was finished with recruiting.
Clemson commitment QB Tony McNeal of Chester withdrew from the game because of his sore knee which was surgically repaired last year. He plans to enroll at Clemson in January.
Presbyterian has a commitment from DL Logan Daughtry (6-4 240) of Nations Ford.
Three players to watch for next season at Georgia Military JC, according to coach Burt Williams, are DL Daniel McCullers (6-8 380), DL Akemious Coleman (6-4 275) and DB Brent Salley (6-2 215), a product of Stratford High School. Williams said USC recruiter Brad Lawing, who recruits his school, is aware of the players and plans to check them out.
DB Marcquis Roberts and TE Rory Anderson of McEachern High School in Powder Springs, GA are on the verge of making their commitments to USC. The two met with Gamecock recruiter GA Mangus Monday night. Both have taken their official visits to USC. Roberts is scheduled for an official visit to Cincinnati this weekend. Anderson said Monday he’s not planning to make any more visits. The two have not yet pinned down an actual date for making their pledges. Roberts, who has family in Columbia, and Anderson have been favoring the Gamecocks throughout the recruiting period.
LB Mike Rose of Hillcrest has committed to Wake Forest. He made his official visit there last week.
