The USC basketball team made it a game, but it couldn’t pull the upset last night at second ranked Michigan State. The Spartans held off the Gamecocks 82-73.
Freshman Bruce Ellington led the Gamecocks with 22 points. He also had five rebounds and five assist to go along with four steals. Brian Richardson scored 11 and Stephen Spinella added 10.
The College of Charleston used a big second half to cruise by Coastal Carolina 83-67. The Cougars scored 55 second half points to erase a 12 point halftime deficit. Andrew Goudelock led Charleston with 27 points.
Furman is 2-0 after its 69-67 home win over UNC-Asheville. Darrel Evans scored 14 points for the Paladins. And Charleston Southern beat the Citadel 68-61. The Bucs have now knocked off the Bulldogs in two straight years.
Also, S.C. State beat Anderson 94-83.
In the ACC, top ranked Duke over Miami of Ohio 79-45, 24th ranked Virginia Tech was no match for third ranked Kansas State, as the Wildcats won 73-57, Florida State won 78-53 against Gardner Webb and VCU beat Wake Forest 90-69.
And finally, in the SEC, 10th ranked Florida lost at home to #5 Ohio State 93-75, 23rd ranked Tennessee over Belmont 85-76, Georgia by nine over Colorado 83-74 and LSU beat Nicholls State 53-62.
