Clemson needs one more win to become bowl eligible and will try and get it this weekend at Wake Forest. They are also looking for their first road win of the season. Dabo Swinney spoke with the media during his ACC conference call today and said that winning a bowl game is one of his team’s goals each season. In order to accomplish that, his team must become bowl eligible.
“You can’t win your bowl game if you’re not in one. That’s a big deal for us and we want to get the best bowl game we can so we have to win as many games as possible to better our chances,” said Swinney.
The Tigers will need to win their next two games in order to finish the regular season 7-5. They face a 2-8 Wake Forest team this weekend on the road, and the following week, host in-state rival, USC. RB Andre Ellington continues to nurse an injury and will be unavailable this weekend. His status for the USC game remains uncertain.
“We’ve got to make a decision by Tuesday of next week,” said Swinney. “That’s what we’re shooting for in trying to get him ready for the Carolina game.
“Hopefully we’ll be able to get a green light on Tuesday. If not, we’ll have to go ahead and do the surgery and move on.”
DE Kortnei Brown is expected to return this week. LB Brandon Maye is questionable and freshman WR Bryce McNeal was injured in practice yesterday. He is unlikely to play against the Demon Deacons.
