The performance and leadership of Clemson athletics director Terry Don Phillips reportedly is being closely scrutinized by university president Dr. James Barker.
Larry Williams of the Clemson fan website TigerIllustrated.com reported Thursday night Barker interviewing athletic department personnel for feedback on Phillips. Williams also reported the Clemson board of trustees took up the matter of the athletic department and Phillips leadership at its most recent meeting.
Williams reported that Phillips has come under fire because Clemson’s sports programs are not winning enough, he’s not been visible at gatherings of supporters, and because of low morale in the athletic department.
Phillips has been Clemson’s AD since 2002. The only major sport ACC championship won by the Tigers under his watch has been the 2006 baseball title.
