Florida coach Urban Meyer opened his portion of the conference call by reading a statement supporting Auburn quarterback Cam Newton. It has been pointed out that Meyer and Florida seem to have a suspicious role in the leaks about Newton’s academic work at Florida. The statement didn’t seem very heartfelt and later in the call when Meyer was asked about the statement on Newton he confirmed that it wasn’t a very sincere gesture.
“My SID thought it was important,” Meyer said. I had no idea what was going on. Obviously we were locked in meetings all day. I didn’t want to do it to be honest with you. But I felt that…you know, whatever they tell me to do I’ll do.”
What a guy, that Urban Meyer. Cut him some slack though, it isn’t like he reinstated a guy that texted to a death threat to his girlfriend, has ever verbally abused a reporter or has had many players arrested during his tenure.
Oops, that’s right, I guess he has. Win at all cost, right Urban? Congrats, you have officially passed Nick Saban as the biggest jerk in the SEC. Well done.
