Legendary USC play-by-play man Bob Fulton passed away Wednesday. He was 89 years old. Fulton, known simply as “The Voice” to Gamecock fans spent almost 50 years behind the mic at USC.
“We are saddened to learn of the passing of Bob Fulton,” said USC Athletics Director Eric Hyman. “Bob left an indelible mark on thousands of fans who listened to his distinctive voice describing Gamecock football, basketball and baseball for years and years. A virtual walking encyclopedia of Gamecock Athletics, Bob had the unique ability to recall events and tell a story of the memorable moments in Carolina history. He will always be regarded by the Gamecock Nation as “The Voice.”
Fulton was hired at USC in 1952. With the expectation of a couple of years in the mid-sixties, he spent every year after calling USC football, basketball and baseball until he retired in 1995.
Fulton was a great broadcaster and a great friend of SportsTalk. He will be missed.
