The Chanticleers have been selected to win the Big South Conference, with senior Chad Gray being selected to the preseason All-Big South team.
The announcement was made Tuesday by the league office, with select members of the media and coaches conducting the vote. Coastal Carolina won the regular season crown last year with a 15-3 conference record, but lost to Winthrop in the tournament finals, giving the Eagles another trip to the NCAA tournament. Winthrop is picked to finish second in the conference this season.
The Chanticleers finished 28-7 overall to compliment their 15-3 conference mark, raising expectations for the 2010-2011 season. After losing to Winthrop in the conference tournament finals, the Chants received an invitation to the NIT, marking their first postseason appearance since 1993.
Senior Chad Gray averaged 14.3 ppg last season with 4.8 rpg, shooting 52% from the field on the year. He was selected to the first team All-Big South team, and looks to build upon last season. Gray is a transfer from South Carolina, with this being his second season with the Chanticleers.
Coastal Carolina plays their first game November 12 at 7:30 pm against Piedmont College. The game will be at home in Kimble Arena.
