As we continue our “Talking Tuesday” coverage of USC’s pre Alabama presser we have some comments from a couple of USC players. Defensive end Cliff Matthews and wide receiver Alshon Jeffery each took a turn at the podium Tuesday afternoon.
Steve Spurrier said Tuesday that Matthews will the brace he wears on his shoulder loosened for this weekend’s game. They are hoping it gives Matthews more mobility to make tackles. Matthews entered the season expecting to be one of the Gamecocks playmakers on defense, but he only has ten tackles in this season.
Not many people are talking about the season Jeffery is having. Lost in the pseudo quarterback controversy and costly turnovers has been the impressive numbers of Jeffery. Through four games Jeffery has 27 catches for 498 yards and two touchdowns. He is averaging 124.5 yards receiving per game. At this pace he could challenge Kenny McKinley’s school record of 77 catches in the 2007 season. He also has a shot at Sidney Rice’s record of 1, 143 yards receiving in the 2005 season.
The 19th ranked Gamecocks will face number one Alabama Saturday afternoon at 3:30 Saturday afternoon.
