USC announced Wednesday that reserve running back Jarvis Giles has decided to transfer. Giles had seen little action this season playing behind Marcus Lattimore, Kenny Miles and Brian Maddox. He had just 2 rushes for 12 yards. As a freshman last season, Giles saw action in 11 games and was the team’s third leading rusher.
In a text message to the St. Petersburg Times, the former Tampa high school star confirmed his plans and indicated he wants to remain on the Division One level.
“I just feel it is in my best interest to leave the University of South Carolina,” Giles said in the text. “But I am looking at schools in the Big 10 and Big 12.” Giles also said in a text message he would be interested in looking at South Florida or Florida if they were interested in him.
Giles was one of the top running back prospects in the country as a high school senior in 2009. He originally committed to Tennessee before switching to the Gamecocks.
