For the first time in over three months the Braves don’t have the lead in the N.L. East. The last drop of their division lead over the Phillies evaporated last night in a 5-0 loss at Pittsburgh. The Phillies edged the Marlins to take a ½ game lead over Atlanta. It is the first time since May 22nd the Braves haven’t led the division.
Atlanta has lost five of its past six games and has especially struggled on the road. The bats have gone especially cold of late. The Braves have only scored 12 runs in their past six games. That is clearly not enough production.
The Braves will get one more chance to beat the hapless Pirates tonight. Derek Lowe will start on the mound. First pitch is 7:05. The Phillies play host to the Marlins again tonight.
Tomorrow night Atlanta returns home to open a series with the Cardinals.
