The Braves picked up won an important game against the Mets Monday night at Turner Field. Atlanta rolled past the Mets 9-3, which was important because the Phillies were shut out by the Dodgers, hence giving the Braves a three game lead in the N.L. East standings. Atlanta has won three straight.

Brian McCann homered for the Braves and rookie Jason Heyward also went deep. Heyward, by the way, had four hits and drove in four runs. This kid doesn’t look like a rookie, play like a rookie or even talk like a rookie. With Chipper Jones gone, Heyward has become the new face of the Braves.

That three game lead in the standings is adding some pressure to the Phillies each night. The two time defending N.L. champs can’t afford to fall too much further behind the Braves and they also have to keep tabs with San Francisco in the Wild Card race.
