The Citadel Football practiced in full pads for the first time on Wednesday morning in day five of fall camp at the Maybank Triplets Practice Facility at Willson Field. The Bulldogs worked out for two-and-a-half hours in clear and humid conditions in the mid-80’s.
Coach Kevin Higgins after Day 5:
On Wednesday’s practice:
“We had a very productive 24 period practice for our first day in full pads. We did one-on-one drills featuring DB’s vs. WR’s and OL vs. DL. Our defense introduced our red zone concepts and worked on them against our scout team.”
On the offense:
“Offensively, we introduced two new option schemes and several play action passes.”
On special teams:
“Our special teams majored in punt return techniques and did a live field goal session. Sam Keeler and Ryan Sellers had a good day kicking the ball.”
On the defense:
“We finished up practice with a live two-period session of offense vs. defense. Defensive backs Cortez Allen and Biron Nabritt each had interceptions as the defense dominated the segment. It was good to see the emotion displayed by our ‘D’ after the big plays.”
The team will return to practice at Maybank Triplets Practice Facility on on Thursday at 8 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. for their first two-a-day session of fall camp. The Bulldogs will also practice Friday at 8 a.m. and take part in another two-a-day on Saturday.
The Citadel will host Meet the Bulldogs on Saturday, Aug. 21, following a scrimmage at 1:15 p.m.
