Atlanta is the latest southern track to meet NASCAR’s chopping block. The track will keep its Labor Day race next season but its other race date will is moving to Kentucky. It will be the first time in 50 years, Atlanta Motor Speedway won’t have two Cup races.
There could be some more shifting of dates before next year’s schedule is released in a few weeks. Officials are still trying to figure out a way to get a second race at Las Vegas
We’ve seen this before with Darlington losing one of its race dates (and always being rumored to lose its final race) and Rockingham losing both of its races.
We have talked to Darlington President Chris Browning a lot about the schedule changes and he has made it clear his track is NOT going to lose its race next year. Browning isn’t sure if the track will keep its Mothers Day weekend race date though.
