The Carolina Panthers have signed third round draft pick Brandon LaFell. Lafell is a wide receiver out of LSU.
Now that LaFell is in the fold the Panthers have all but one of their draft picks signed. The only player that remains unsigned is quarterback Casey Clausen. Clausen was the team’s second round pick.
LaFell is expected to compete for playing time early in Carolina’s thin receiving corp. The team has already signed former Greenwood and Appalahican state star Armanti Edwards, another third rounder, with the hopes he can contribute as a rookie.
The lack of depth at wide receiver is compounded even more with Steve Smith recovering from a broken arm and the retirement of Muhsin Muhammad. Smith is expected to be back in time for the regular season.
The Panthers open training camp next week at Wofford College in Spartanburg.
