The Braves got their first look at Washington’s young ace pitcher Stephen Strasburg Monday night. They walked away thoroughly impressed with the young flame thrower. More importantly they walked away with a 5-0 victory over Strasberg and the Nationals.
Strasburg pitch 6 1/3 innings and gave up six hits and struck out seven. He ran into trouble in the seventh when he gave up four runs. Three of those were earned. The loss drops Strasburg to 2-2 this season. His ERA moved up to 2.27.

He’s still putting up great numbers for a guy that has only made five starts. You can see why the Braves were raving about him after the game.
The best pitcher on the field last night was Tim Hudson. Hudson pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits and striking out six. He lowered his ERA to 2.37 and improved to 8-3 this season.

Last night’s win over Washington combined with the Mets loss to the Marlins extends the Braves lead in the N.L. East standings to 1 ½ games over the Mets. The Phillies also lost and are now 3 ½ games back.
Atlanta and Washington will play game two of theirs series tonight at 7:10 at Turner Field.
