For the second time in as many starts Tommy Hanson didn’t give the Braves much of a chance on the mound. On Sunday against Detroit Hanson didn’t make it out of the fourth inning and left after he gave up six runs, five of which we earned. The Tigers ended up winning 10-4 and took two of three against Atlanta at Turner Field.
Tommy Hanson on his rough start
Atlanta is still clinging to that ever so slim lead in the N.L East standings. The Mets blanked the Twins Sunday and they are ½ game behind the Braves for the top spot. The Phillies also won and are sitting 2 ½ games back.
Tonight, the Nationals roll into Turner Field. There normally isn’t any kind of buzz when Washington comes to town but tonight’s game could arguably be the biggest at Turner Field this season. The biggest to this point anyway.
Washington will pitch rookie fireballer Stephen Strasburg tonight against Atlanta. Strasburg is 2-1 with a 1.78 ERA this season. He has struck out a major league record 41 batters in his first four starts. In other words, this kid is one of those rare athletes that have actually lived up to the hype.
It is pretty special to see a rookie gassing it at about 96 miles per hour in the seventh inning.
If there was ever a time to make sure you watched a Braves-Nats game, tonight is that night. First pitch is 7:10.
