We are still waiting to get official word on USC and Clemson’s starting pitching plans for tonight’s showdown in Omaha although it does look as though Clemson has settled on Dominic Leone . Multiple outlets, including the Charleston Post and Courier, have reported that Leone will get the ball.
Leone is a freshman right hander. He is 3-1 this season with a 4.53 ERA. He has pitched in 21 games and made nine starts. He started the Super Regional championship game against Alabama last week and picked up the win.
The Tigers have only played two games in Omaha so Jack Leggett has plenty of options on his pitching staff. Ace Casey Harman has already had four days rest and should the Tigers lose tonight he almost certainly will be the starter on Saturday.
USC coach Ray Tanner’s team will be playing its fourth game of the College World Series tonight so obviously his pitching choices are smaller than Leggett’s. Last night he mentioned Jay Brown (3-0, 4.44), Stephen Neff (2-1, 4.44) as possibilities.
We will pass along Tanner’s choice when we receive confirmation. We should know something in the next hour or two.
