The Braves got off to a shaky start Tuesday night in Chicago. The White Sox handed them a 9-6 loss in the opening game of their series. That snaps a five game Braves win streak. Meanwhile Chicago has won 11 of its past 12 games.
Things got ugly in a hurry for Braves starter Tommy Hanson. He allowed nine runs and 14 hits in just 3 2/3 innings of work. Martin Prado and Brian McCann both homered but it wasn’t nearly enough to overcome the big deficit created by Hanson.
To make matters worse the Mets pounded the Tigers 14-6 to move within 1 ½ of the Braves for first place in the N.L. East standings.
The Phillies also won, 2-1 over the Indians, and they have pulled within 4 ½ games of first place.
Atlanta will try to get back on track tonight against the Chi Sox. Tim Hudson will start on the mound. He’s 7-2 this season. The Sox will counter with Mark Buehrle, who is a 5-6. The game is scheduled to start at 8:10.
