Walker hit a hanging slider on a 1-2 pitch deep over the left field wall to cap the Gamecocks’ fourth rally of the game. Coastal led 1-0 after a half inning but USC scored two in the bottom of the first. Coastal put a four spot on the board in the second for a 5-2 lead, but the Gamecocks came back with three in the third to tie. The Chants added a run in the fourth and one in the sixth for a 7-5 lead only to see USC respond with two in the sixth to tie the game at seven. Coastal then put up single runs in the seventh and eighth for a 9-7 lead which held up until Walker’s blast off Austin Fleet.
Gamecock closer Matt Price finished up in the ninth, the last of seven USC pitchers, and sealed the game with a strike out, a fly out and a grounder. The Gamecock players then rushed from the dugout and formed a human pile up near the pitchers mound.
