The Citadel took down Virginia Tech 7-2 in the opening game here at the NCAA baseball tournament Columbia Regional. The Bulldogs move into the winners bracket and will face the winner of USC and Bucknell tomorrow night at 7:00.

The Bulldogs took an early 4-0 lead in the second inning and never looked back from there. Two of those four runs came on a David Green two run homer. That was all the run support starting pitcher Matt Talley needed to get the Bulldogs off to a winning start in the postseason.
Talley pitched seven innings, allowed eight hits and two earned runs. He struck out three and didn’t walk a batter. Talley was outstanding and the good news for El Cid is that he isn’t even the staff ace. That role belongs to junior right hander Asher Wojciechowski and he will get the ball in tomorrow night’s game. Wojciechowski is 12-2 and will be an early pick in next week’s major league draft.
With the Citadel advancing and USC expected to do the same later tonight, it could be really interesting to see Wojciechowski and Blake Cooper go head to head tomorrow night. If that matchup happens runs will probably be at a premium.
You gotta love postseason baseball.
