The USC baseball team will host its first ever NCAA regional at Carolina Stadium this weekend. The Gamecocks are the top seed in the regional that features Virginia Tech (two seed), The Citadel (three seed) and Bucknell (four seed). Friday’s matchups will feature The Citadel and Bucknell at 2:00 followed by USC and Bucknell at 7:00.
The Gamecocks enter the postseason with a 43-15 record. They are 27-6 at Carolina Stadium. The team had a strong regular season and finished second in the SEC race, however they lost four of their final five games down the stretch. They scored two runs or less in all four of the losses.

The Citadel is 42-20 this season. The Bulldogs won the Southern Conference tournament last week and they have one of the best pitchers in the country in Asher Wojceichowski. Bulldogs coach Fred Jordan is holding Wojceichowski until the second game of the series and will start Matt Talley tomorrow against Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech was perhaps the biggest surprise in the ACC this season. The Hokies have never been known as a baseball power but they put together an impressive 38-20 season and won 16 conference games. They are one of a record eight ACC schools playing in the postseason.

Bucknell is one of those rare teams that is in the postseason with a losing record. The Bison finished the season at 25-33 but earned a trip to the postseason by virtue of its Patriot League conference tournament title last week. They have won seven of their past ten games entering this weekend’s regional.
