The 6th ranked Clemson baseball team ran into a buzz saw last night against Elon. The Phoenix pounded out 11 runs in the final four innings to take a 15-10 win. That is Clemson’s first home loss of the season, in fact it snaps an 18 game home winning streak.
Will Lamb homered and drove in three runs for the Tigers. Kyle Parker also had a pair of hits and a home run in the losing cause. The two teams will play a rematch tonight at 6:30 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
Meanwhile, 14th ranked USC needed extra innings to beat Georgia Southern. Brady Thomas gave the Gamecocks the win with a three run double in the top of the 13th inning. John Taylor was pitched two flawless innings of relief to give Carolina the 8-5 win. That’s 11 straight wins for USC. They are 17-4 overall and will return to SEC action this weekend at Auburn.
Also last night, 10th ranked Coastal Carolina beat the Citadel 7-1, Presbyterian over Furman 5-4 and Charleston Southern doubled up Savannah State 12-6.
Tonight, in addition to the Clemson-Elon rematch, Furman is at Georgia The College of Charleston is at Charleston Southern, Wofford is home to Presbyterian and Winthrop is at the Citadel.
