The 11th ranked Clemson baseball team bounced back from a surprising loss at Charlotte with an empathic 22-6 thumping of Georgia Southern Thursday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. Jeff Shaus hit two home runs and drove in six for the Tigers. Oh, and Kyle Parker homered. Again. He has eight dingers this season.
On a related note, Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney has punched exactly eight holes in his office wall.
Okay, I’m kidding. Because, as Dabo has clearly stated, he’s Parker’s number one baseball fan. I completely believe him when he says that he’s not concerned about Parker opting for a pro baseball deal instead of returning to the gridiron next fall. Actually, no I don’t. I like you a lot, Dabo Swinney, but I think you have to be getting more anxious each time this kid yanks one out of the yard.
Getting back to baseball, the Tigers win last night improves their record to 14-2. They are 3-0 in the ACC and have a chance to build on that league mark this weekend with a home series against Virginia Tech. The Tigers would love to pull another sweep against the Hokies and set up a huge showdown next week at top ranked Virginia.
