USC spotted Clemson a 4-0 lead after two innings and then scored seven unanswered runs in handing the Tigers a 7-5 loss in front of 7105 fans at Fluor Field in Greenville Saturday afternoon. The victory evens the weekend series at a game each heading into Sunday’s finale in Columbia. It also snaps a three game losing streak by the Gamecocks to the Tigers and improves their record to 6-3. Clemson suffered its first loss of the season and is 8-1.

The Tigers jumped on Gamecock starter Sam Dyson for four runs over the first two innings putting three on the board in the second. The Gamecocks cut the lead in half in the third as Jackie Bradley Jr. clubbed a two run homer over the minature Green Monster in left field. Bradley Jr. delivered again for the Gamecocks in the fifth with an RBI single to make it a 4-3 game.

The Gamecocks tied the game in the 7th on an RBI single by Whit Merrifield. USC took the lead in the top of the 9th on an RBI double by Merrifield, and then added insurance runs on Bradley’s third hit and fourth RBI of the game and a RBI single by Kyle Enders. Clemson closed out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the 9th.

Dyson pitched 5.2 innings allowing 5 hits and 4 runs. He struck out 7 and walked 2. Jimmy Revan was solid in two innings of relief allowing 1 hit and 1 walk. Matt Price earned the win with an inning of work and Micheal Roth picked up the save. Will Lamb started for Clemson and went 5.1 innings allowing 3 hits and 3 runs. Alex Frederick, Thomas Cruz, Jonathan Meyer and Dominic Leone also worked in relief for the Tigers. Cruz took the loss.
