Like so many games in this series, this one was a no doubter. Except this time it was Clemson leaving no doubt as the 24th ranked Tigers shellacked 12th ranked North Carolina Wednesday night in Littlejohn Coliseum 83-64 to end a ten game losing streak to the Tar Heels. It’s just the 20th win in the series for the Tigers in 142 games. It’s the Tigers’ biggest margin of victory over Heels since 1977.

Clemson scored the first six points of the game and the Tigers never trailed. The Tigers went up by 10 with 15:32 to play in the first half, and they never let the Tar Heels get back to a single digit deficit the rest of the game. The Tigers led by 18 at halftime and the closest the Tar Heels would get was 11 points with 6:04 to play.

The 64 points for North Carolina is its lowest total of the season, and the Tar Heels’ 26 turnovers matches their season high. Clemson converted those turnovers into 33 points. The Tigers shot a blistering 57.6% in the first half and finished the game at 47.5%. And they were 18-20 from the foul line.

Trevor Booker led Clemson with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Demontez Stitt added 20 points and 4 assissts. And Tanner Smith knocked down 14 points to go along with 6 rebounds. Smith also had 5 steals.

The Tigers improve to 14-3 overall and 2-1 in the ACC. They will play at NC State Saturday afternoon. The Tar Heels fall to 12-5 and 1-1. They will play Georgia Tech Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill.
