Remember back in the summer when I wrote on this very page that Lane Kiffin was going to be a train wreck at Tennessee? And that was before he even coached a game. Well, I have to admit, Kiffy did better than I expected during the season. No, they didn’t light it up by any means but I have to give him credit for wins over Georgia and USC and playing Alabama and Florida tough. But I do maintain this guy is going to be a colossal bust in Knoxville.
This week’s story about alleged misuse of recruiting hostesses is just the latest evidence that Kiffin has no clue or no regard for the rules. I don’t know which it is. Maybe it is both. It is one thing to lob zingers at coaches at a news conference but when you allegedly have university hostesses travel over 200 miles to Duncan, SC to hold up signs asking three Byrnes High players to commit to Tennessee you are going to draw the ire of the NCAA.
Kiffin claims he and his staff didn’t do anything wrong. Maybe. Maybe not. I mean the guy has already committed six secondary violations since he took over last December. He is one pace to have more NCAA violations than he does wins in year one in Knoxville. Impressive.

I don’t think there will be any major sanctions from this issue but it is never a good thing when the NCAA starts sniffing around your program. It stings even more when they are talking to players you haven’t even signed yet. Seems to be that this will certainly hurt the Vols recruiting class (which is currently ranked 6th in the country by Scout.com).
It should be fun to see how it all unfolds. I predict it will end badly in the long run. Remember how his last job ended? I suspect it will be similar to that. It will be a long hard fall down Rocky Top.
