The Clemson basketball team continued its dominance of USC Sunday with a 72-61 win over the Gamecocks at Littlejohn Coliseum. It’s the sixth win in a row for the Tigers in the series. The game was tight until the final eight minutes when the Tigers pulled away with an 18-6 run.

The Gamecocks played without starting forward Dominique Archie and Mike Holmes. Both are sidelined with injuries. And they had to deal with an off night by star guard Devan Downey. He was just 3-15 from the floor and managed just eight points, eleven off his average. Last season Downey scorched the Tigers for 37 points.

Tanner Smith and Demontez Stitt led the Tigers with 14 points each. Smith also had 10 rebounds. Jerai Grant also had a double-double for the Tigers with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Gamecocks forced 19 turnovers and turned it over just 10 times themselves, but they only outscored the Tigers 14-11 in points off turnovers. Clemson won the rebounding battle 47-36.

Brandis Raley-Ross led USC with 16 points. He hit four three pointers on the day. Sam Muldrow added 13 points and freshman Ramon Galloway 11.

Clemson improves to 7-2 while USC falls to 6-2. The Tigers are off for exams until Sunday when they play host to Furman. The Gamecocks also are entering the exam break. They return to action at home December 16th against Richmond.
