Clemson coach Dabo Swinney held his weekly press conference today to preview the Tigers matchup with Coastal Carolina. Clemson enters this weekend’s game at 4-3 and 3-2 in the ACC. The Chanticleers are 3-4 and 1-2 in the Big South. Obviously this should be a much easier game than last week’s battle at then 8th ranked Miami. Of course you know Swinney (or any coach for that matter) isn’t going to take any team lightly.

A lot of the talk today is about C.J. Spiller and how is will stack up in the Heisman race. I have said repeatedly that Spiller is clearly one of the top four or five players in the country. That is regardless of position. No, he isn’t playing on a top five team or in a conference that is full of good teams but that doesn’t take away from the fact that Spiller is deadly every time the ball is in his hands.

The Heisman trophy is supposed to go to the best football player in the country. Sadly, too often it goes to the best offensive player on the best team in the country (think Jason White, Ginto Torretta and so on). Yes it is a long shot for Spiller to win but he deserves to be in New York this December to be recognized with the other best players in the game.
Another thing Spiller deserves credit for is being a good teammate. Sometimes other players get resentful or even annoyed when a teammate is the focus of an individual award. However, Spiller’s teammates have embraced the Heisman talk and seem to be enjoying the chance to play alongside a guy as talented as Spiller.

Spiller has been playing lights out for sure but he’s not the only offensive guy that is making plays. Kyle Parker passed for over 300 yards and three touchdowns against Miami. The redshirt freshman continues to make progress and is beginning to look like a potential top tier ACC quarterback.

Clemson and Coastal Carolina will play at 1:30 Saturday. As a way to get into the Halloween sprit the Tigers will wear all orange and the Chant’s will wear all black. On the injury front LB Scotty Cooper is expected to be back this weekend. He’s been out the past two weeks because of a concussion. Tight end Michael Palmer probably won’t play Saturday as he recovers from the concussion he suffered against Miami.
