USC continued its trend of playing down to its opponent early and before pulling away late Saturday night against S.C. State. The Gamecocks only had a 10-3 at the half but they put 21 one the board in the third quarter and went on to beat the Bulldogs 38-14.
Despite his team’s struggles in the first half Steve Spurrier dished out some rare praise for his offense in his postgame interview. The Head Ball Coach liked quarterback Stephen Garcia’s two touchdown passes to Moe Brown that went for 40 and nine yards respectively.

Bulldogs coach Buddy Pough showed why his team is considered the best in in the MEAC and one of the best in the FCS division. He has to be happy that his team was able to go toe to toe on the road against an SEC team.

Now for the bad news for USC. Starting defensive back Akeem Auguste’ did not play against S.C. State and according to Spurrier he is suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules. He will be out at least the next three games if not longer. This is just another blow to Ellis Johnson’s defensive unit that has been hampered by suspensions and injuries all season.

USC improves to 4-1 this season. The Gamecocks return to SEC play next weekend with a home game against Kentucky. It will kick off at 12:30 and be televised by Fox Sports.
