Clemson battled 14th ranked TCU to the final minutes before falling the Horned Frogs 14-10 at rain soaked Death Valley. The Tigers once again squandered numerous scoring opportunities including a late fourth quarter drive that died at the TCU 16. The Tigers have scored just one offensive touchdown in their last two games.

CJ Spiller led the Tiger offense with 112 rushing yards on 26 carries. He also caught three passes for 79 yards including a 60 yarder that carried to the TCU four yard line. Spiller later scored on a one yard one.

Tiger quarterback Kyle Parker faced a heavy rush much of the day though he was only sacked once. He was flushed from the pocket on several occassions and forced to throw the ball away or missed his receivers. Parker finished the day 17-37 for 192 yards.

The Tigers made four trips into the TCU red zone and game away with ten points. Besides Spiller’s touchdown and a 25 yard Richard Jackson field goal, the Tigers had a missed Jackson field goal from 34 yards and turned the ball over on downs from the TCU 17 and TCU 16. The missed field goal was obviously huge because the Tigers could have kicked for the win at the end instead of being forced to go for the touchdown. But to be fair, TCU also missed a 42 yard field goal in the third quarter. The Tigers finished with 309 total yards including 117 on the ground.

The Clemson defense yielded 388 yards including 162 on the ground. TCU quarterback Andy Dalton rushed for 86 yards and passed for 226 yards and two touchdowns. He had a lot of success with the zone read option and found the middle of the Clemson defense wide open on several plays. The Tigers apparently were running a lot of dime coverage leaving just one linebacker to play the middle of the field, and TCU attacked that.

The Tigers fall to 2-2 overall and will play at Maryland next Saturday with kickoff at 12:00. TCU is 3-0 and plays SMU next week.
