Kyle Parker will make his first career start Saturday against Middle Tennessee. The redshirt freshman out of Jacksonville, Florida has made a name for himself as a standout on the Tiger baseball team and now he will get the chance to show his prowess on the gridiron. Parker beat out former Byrnes high star Willy Korn to earn the starting job but Korn is also expected to see some action Saturday. Parker will be taking his first collegiate snap against the Blue Raiders.

Parker is the first freshman to start at quarterback in the season opener since Bobby Gage did it in 1945. Tiger fans hope that Parker, like Gage, will end up being an All-American. And, in case you are up for some more trivia, the last Clemson quarterback to start a season opener without having ever played a down in a college game was Mike O’Cain against Texas A&M in 1974.
