South Carolina State put on shoulder pads for the first time Sunday as the Bulldogs conducted their initial preseason workout in waist-up gear. Coach Buddy Pough, following the drill, said his team appeared to handle the new gear pretty well.
“It was our first day in shoulder pads,” said Pough. “Most of the players moved around pretty good with the shoulder pads on. “Any actual improvement or progress will be evident after another session or two.
“But, our team is continuously getting work done,” he continued. “I saw a lot of guys working hard. And, this is what we need…everyone working hard in order for us to develop into a cohesive unit.”
Like the previous two workouts, SC State continued installing the offensive and defensive schemes the Bulldogs will rely on this fall as they defend their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship.
Rings commemorating the 2008 MEAC crown will be presented to the players and coaches during a special ceremony at The STATE Club-sponsored “Meet the Players” Day Aug. 22.
The Bulldogs will workout in waist-up gear again Monday, beginning at approximately 3:10 p.m.
