The Major League draft cranks up today. There are several players with local ties that could go early. USC pitcher Sam Dyson is a potential first rounder. Clemson lefty Chris Dwyer could also be an early round selection. Mauldin high pitcher Madison Younginer is expected to go early as is Gilbert High shortstop Chris Owings.
Younginer is a Clemson signee and Owings is a Gamecock signee. Both schools are hoping their incoming classes aren’t hit two hard by the draft over the next couple of days. However, players that are selected in the first three to five round almost always sign pro contracts.
The Washington Nationals have the first pick and they plan to use it on San Diego State pitcher Steven Strasburg.
Rounds 1-3 start at 6:00 today, rounds 4-30 are Wednesday and the rest of the draft is on Thursday. You can follow all action on the draft tracker and we will also keep you up to date on all of the action here and on SportsTalk tonight.
