Things didn’t start particularly well for Carolina. Starting pitcher Sam Dyson struggled in the first inning and the Patriots jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead. It could have been worse too. Jackie Bradley Jr. scaled the right field wall to pull back a sure home run and they turned a double play to get out of the early jam.
The Gamecocks offense was sluggish until the fourth inning. USC only had one hit going into the inning but by the time it was over they had six hits and four runs on the board. One of those hits was a solo shot from DH Parker Bangs, his 5th of the year. Bangs finished the day 3-4, his first three hit game of his career.
The Gamecocks added two more runs in the fifth. A Jackie Bradley Jr. two run shot in the sixth gave them two more runs. They followed that up with a three spot in the seventh inning. One of those runs came on Nick Ebert’s 23rd home run of the season.
Sam Dyson pitched seven innings to earn his ninth win of the season. Curtis Johnson pitched the final two scoreless innings.
The Gamecocks will face the winner of East Carolina and Binghamton tomorrow at 6:00.
