The NCAA golf championships tee off today in Ohio. USC is one of the 30 teams in the field. The tournament will take place at the Inverness Club in Toledo. Gamecocks coach Bill McDonald seems very confident heading into the tournament.

Among the reasons why McDonald is so confident is the new format being used at this year’s tournament. Instead of the traditional 72-hole stroke play format, the top eight teams after 54 holes will begin a match play format. They will go head-to head for three elimination rounds with the last team standing earning the title. McDonald feels like, should his team make it to the match play, that he has the players that can excel in that format.
