Clemson is getting ready for its much anticipated ACC tournament opener here in Durham. The Tigers and Cavaliers are the last two team’s playing in this tournament. In fact, some teams in the field have already played two games.
The Tigers will send senior right hander Trey Delk to the mound tonight. He’s 4-1 with a 2.41 ERA this season. The Hoos plan to counter with junior lefty Matt Packer. He’s 3-4 with a 3.97 ERA. Clemson may have caught a break facing Packer instead of Virginia ace and ACC freshman of the year Danny Hultzen. This game could have more than just ACC tournament ramifications. The Tigers and Cavaliers both have aspirations to host a regional next week. The winner of tonight’s game might clinch just that. This one is scheduled to get started at 8:00 tonight.
In the early game today Boston College downed Georgia Tech 7-3. The Yellow Jackets are 0-2 in the tournament and have lost four straight. That could be a big blow to their aspirations of grabbing a top eight national seed for the NCAA’s next week. It also keeps the door open for Clemson to perhaps grab a national seed if they can put together a run here in Durham.
