Clemson dropped its ACC tournament opener to Virginia Thursday night, 6-5. The Tigers jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead on Cavaliers starter Matt Packer but it was all downhill from there.
With Packer struggling in the 4th inning Cavs coach Brian O’Conner called on Andrew Carraway out of the bullpen. Carraway is normally a starter but he was dominate in his relief role. He silenced the Tiger bats, allowing just one hit and striking out seven in 4 1/3 innings of work. Carraway’s appearance in the game marked the turning point for Jack Leggett and the Tigers.
