The Braves start a three game series with Colorado tonight at Turner Field. Derek Lowe (5-1, 3.80) will start for Atlanta and face the Rockies Jason Marquis (4-3 5.40). Atlanta enters this game with an even .500 record of 18-18. They are 2 ½ games behind the Mets for first place in the NL East standings.
The Braves rainout Sunday against the Diamondbacks has altered their pitching rotation this week. Lowe was scheduled to start Sunday but is taking the mound tonight instead. That means he’s has six days rest since his last start. Rookie Kris Medlin will make his major league debut tomorrow night. The 23- year-old is 4-0 with a 1.07 ERA in Triple-A Gwinnett this year. He is replacing Jo-Jo Reyes in the rotation. Reyes is winless in his last 18 starts. Regardless of how Medlin does tomorrow night his time in the rotation may be short lived. Tom Glavine is rehabbing his tender shoulder and targeting a return to the rotation at the end of the month.
