The 4-8 season in 2025 for South Carolina caught all Gamecocks off guard. After a 9-4 campaign and a near miss for the CFP in 2024, expectations of an even better season in 2025 were sky high. But it didn’t happen, and the Gamecocks turned into one of the biggest disappointments of the season.
Why?
In a new hype video released by the football program on Monday, head coach Shane Beamer and strength coach Luke Day, when addressing the players, shared some of the insight from inside the football building as to what led to the great collapse of ’25, and how they will fix it.
Luke Day: “We met with 110 of you, or how many are still standing, after the season. We said, why are we four and eight? And these are our most popular responses. We don’t know how to finish. We weren’t detailed. And, our mindset. You will establish our identity on the field. You are either with us, calling yourself a South Carolina Gamecock, or you are making us fail. You are either making us better, or you are making it worse with your presence.”
Shane Beamer: “I made a point of trying to get guys in here that are older guys, that are natural leaders, that have played a lot of football. I said, if you love football, and you love to compete, then you’re going to love this place. If you have entitlement, don’t come. If you’re expecting me to just promise you some starting job, don’t come.”
Luke Day: “If we’re going to be a football team that we aspire to be, we’ve got to get better at our job. This is your job. The schedule will reflect you’re being better at your craft. We’re going to learn our craft. We’re going to learn what it is that you came here to do. Here’s what we’re going to do. By being bad-ass coaches, we’re going to do the best thing that makes your life better.”
Shane Beamer: “There’s a long time until we kick things off against Kent State, alright, but it starts now!”
