Step by step and week by week, the Clemson football team is moving back up in the national consciousness of the panel of AP football poll voters. After falling from 14th in the pre-season to 25th following the loss to Georgia, the Tigers have used a pair of blow out home wins to get back within the top 20.
The new AP Top 25 ranking released Sunday afternoon shows the Tigers are now ranked 17th, an improvement of four positions from last week. The Tigers totaled 540 points in the poll leaving them six points back of #16 Notre Dame.
Clemson is up to 15th in the new Coaches Top 25.
Louisville is currently the only ranked team left on Clemson’s schedule. The Cardinals are 15th this week.
USC received votes totaling seven points. Three future Gamecock opponents are ranked with Ole Miss #6, Missouri #11 and Oklahoma #21.
Texas is number one for the second straight week in the AP ranking and is followed by Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama and Tennessee.
