South Carolina’s Shane Beamer held his weekly press conference, Tuesday, where he shared the latest injury updates and looked ahead to this weekend’s matchup with Vanderbilt this weekend.

Beamer knows his team didn’t play its best in the victory over Jacksonville State, leaving plenty of room for improvement as the Gamecocks get back into conference play this week. “Some of them (wins) are really big and convincing and we play great, and some are ugly as heck and we don’t play great. But at the end of the day, we won the football game,” Beamer said. “It’s ok to celebrate a win and be disappointed in how you played.”

Beamer also updated the status of running back Dakereon Joyner (out), offensive lineman Trai Jones (out) and tight end Trey Knox (questionable). Beamer indicated wide receiver Antwane Wells, Jr. has been with the team at practice but is still unable to participate. Beamer said, “He’s basically out until I tell you otherwise. Don’t anticipate him playing this week, but I’m not trying to BS you, like there is a chance he could play. It’s just where he is mentally and where he is physically.”

The Gamecocks will look to pick up their fourth victory of the season and keep their bowl hopes alive when they play host to Vanderbilt at noon, Saturday.
