USC recruiter Pete Lembo late last month offered 2025 OT Malachi Goodman (6-5 295) of Paramus, NJ, and the next step in the process is getting Goodman down for a visit. He’s never been to USC but that could change later this month. This recruitment is in the very early stages, and Goodman is not yet in a position to commit to a visit with the Gamecocks.
“I talked to coach Lembo first, and I’m just starting to talk with them right now. We’re building a relationship right now,” Goodman said. “I’ve never been there but I’m looking forward to going on November 25th maybe, but it’s undecided right now.”
One of the issues is his schedule. Paramus Catholic is entering the playoffs, and their games are on Saturday, so that would preclude future visits for the time being. Goodman is coming off a visit to Nebraska last weekend. He has also been to Boston College and Maryland for games this season.
What he knows about the Gamecocks Goodman is learning from Lembo.
“I hear that they are a great program,” Goodman said. “He also told me about how the program works and that I would fit in great. One thing he said is you can be a good player, but you also have to have character. He said I have that.”
Goodwin said Nebraska, Penn State and Maryland, in particular, have been recruiting him pretty hard to this point. He also has offers from Syracuse, Rutgers, Duke, Virginia Tech, East Carolina and Marshall. He said he’s looking for that school that’s going to take him to that next level in life and football.
“What school is going to make me a better person and a better athlete,” Goodman said. “Education, of course.”
