USC (the original) is very much in play for DE Kameryn Fountain (6-6 235) of Atlanta. Fountain, who is only in his third season of football, surprised a lot of followers when he committed in early June to USC (aka Southern Cal) following an official visit to Los Angeles.
Since then, however, Fountain has sort of distanced himself from that commitment to the point where it appears it won’t be long before he’s out of it.
“Yeah, but it’s like 50-50 right now. It’s still a high chance that I decommit. It’s Auburn and South Carolina,” Fountain said last week. “With Auburn, it’s the way my brand is with the whole coaching staff. It’s more like a family bond. With South Carolina, it’s the same thing. Me and Coach (Sterling) Lucas, we don’t always talk about football. We talk about what my life has going on.”
Lucas scouted Fountain a couple of weeks ago, and Fountain said they two have been in regular communication.
“We’ve been talking every day,” Fountain said. “We’ve been talking about my playing style and what I should work on and stuff like that.”
Fountain said he was supposed to take an unofficial visit to USC for the Mississippi State game, but he was beat up and tired from his game the night before and couldn’t make it in. He does plan to visit for a game as well as take an official visit. The only place he’s visited for a game this season is Auburn, and he also plans to schedule an official visit with the Tigers.
Fountain said he will be graduating in December, and he doesn’t have a timeline for a decision. He also said football won’t be the driving factor behind his decisoin.
“My education,” Fountain said. “The place has got to have a good education for engineering and electronics.”
Fountain’s last visit to USC was for a junior day on January 21st.
