Williams-Brice Stadium: USC quarterback Spencer Rattler was nearly perfect through the air, and the Gamecocks also discovered they can run the football, as they outscored Mississippi State 37-30 Saturday night in Columbia. Rattler was 18-20 passing for 288 yards and three touchdowns, and the Gamecocks rushed for a season high 144 yards with Marion Anderson gaining 88 yards on 28 carries.

But they had to survive a passing onslaught by Bulldogs’ quarterback Will Rogers who threw for a career high 487 yards and a touchdown.

At halftime, the Gamecocks retired the jersey of one of their all-time great receivers in Alshon Jeffery, and he had to be impressed with the show put on by a pair of receivers.  The Gamecocks’ Xavier Legette caught five passes for a career high 189 yards and two touchdowns of 76 and 75 yards. And the Bulldogs’ Lideatrick Griffin had career highs with seven catches for 256 yards, including a 65-yard score.

The Gamecocks have now beaten the Bulldogs in eight of their last nine meetings. They evened their record at 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the SEC and will play at Tennessee next Saturday night.
