#Gamecocks picked to finish third in SEC East; Dawgs favorites to repeat

Spencer Rattler and the Gamecocks are projected to finish in the top three of the Eastern Division

The Gamecocks have been picked to finish third in the SEC East in the preseason media poll, two places behind favorite Georgia and one spot in back of Tennessee. The Bulldogs were also picked to win the conference title ahead of projected West champion Alabama. The preseason poll mirrors the final standings in the East from 2022.

Additionally, six South Carolina players were named to preseason All-SEC teams. Punter Kai Kroeger and kickoff specialist Mitch Jeter were named first-team. Wide receiver Antwane Wells, Jr. was named to the SEC second-team. Tight end Trey Knox, defensive lineman Tonka Hemingway and all-purpose back Dakereon Joyner were selected to the third-team.

In the West, the media expects Alabama to return to the top after missing out on the division crown last season following a loss to LSU. The Crimson Tide had represented the West in six of eight SEC Championship Games before last year. Georgia has had a stranglehold on the East in recent seasons, finishing first in five of the last six seasons.

Georgia led all vote-getters for the championship with 181, followed by Alabama (62), LSU (31), Tennessee (5), Vanderbilt (5), Arkansas (2) and Auburn (2). South Carolina, Mississippi State and Texas A&M received one vote, apiece.
