Tennessee handed Clemson another head-to-head recruiting defeat Wednesday when WR Mike Matthews of Lilburn, NC announced a commitment to the Vols. Earlier this month the Vols beat out the Tigers for OT William Satterwhite. In the case of Matthews, Clemson appeared to be the favorite through much of the recruiting process. He took his official visit to Clemson for their big weekend of June 2nd. Three weeks later he made his official visit to Tennessee and from there the situation shifted toward the Vols. Despite missing on Matthews, the Tigers have two receivers committed and that might be all they will take at the position.

Two USC targets are next on the calendar for making commitment announcements, but at this point the Gamecocks aren’t expected to land either. Thursday DT D’Antre Robinson will make his commitment announcement with Florida and Texas the top two. Friday DT Liam Andrews will go public with Penn State as the favorite.

Clemson is back on the clock Saturday with CB Corian Gibson. His decision appears to be down to the Tigers and Texas.

Clemson target 2025 DE Isaiah Campbell was offered by Tennessee.
