It’s try it again time for both Auburn and new coach Hugh Freeze. The Tigers ended the two-year Bryan Harsin experiment last November, and Freeze was hired from Liberty, the fifth man to serve as the Tigers’ head coach since 2020, counting those carrying the interim tag.
So, Auburn starts over again, as does Freeze who was run out of Ole Miss for NCAA and other indiscretions following the 2016 season. Freeze resurrected his career at Liberty going 34-15 there in four seasons.
Freeze is known as one of the best offensive minds in college football. The quarterback competition will be led by returning starter Robby Ashford though he’ll be challenged by Michigan State transfer Peyton Thorne. Overall, 17 starters return including nine on a defense that allowed just under 30 points per game last season.
