MLB Draft recap for the Palmetto State

The Major League Baseball Draft concluded Tuesday night with 614 picks over 20 rounds. For the record, Western Carolina SS Pascanel Ferreras was pick #614 by the Houston Astros. As for those who played in the state of South Carolina this season, or were committed to USC or Clemson, a total of 24 players were selected.

USC had the most connections drafted with six veterans and three commitments. Clemson had three veterans and two signees drafted, but the two recruits were taken within the first 43 picks.

Coastal Carolina, Winthrop, College of Charleston, Wofford, North Greenville (2) and Florence-Darlington Tech were other colleges in the state who had players chosen. Rock Hill and P27 Academy (2) in Lexington were the two in-state high schools to have players drafted.

Sixteen different teams selected players from South Carolina with the Angels leading the way with three picks.
